Eternal rest grant unto Nathan, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.

Requiescat in pace. I did not know Nathan well, but he was a doctoral student at Notre Dame when I was an undergraduate studying theology there. I admired his passion for liturgical studies, and I remember having a few conversations with him about his research interests in the field. I did not know that Nathan had been sick with leukemia, but from what I read in the obituary and the Pray Tell blog tribute, he offered his dying well as a gift to so many others, strengthened by his faith in the paschal mystery of our Lord. The church has a lost a great scholar, teacher, and witness, but I am confident that he is praying with us at each Eucharist among the communion of saints in heaven. May his Exsultet also be ours!

Although I didn't have the chance to know Nathan personally or to discuss theology with him, I deeply admire his passion for liturgical studies. His dedication to this field was evident, and I remember reading about the rich conversations he had with others regarding his research interests.

I was saddened to learn that Nathan had been battling leukemia. From what I've read in the obituary and the Pray Tell blog tribute, it is clear that Nathan offered his suffering and eventual passing as a profound gift to many, finding strength in his faith in the paschal mystery of our Lord. The church has indeed lost a remarkable scholar, teacher, and witness.

Yet, I find solace in the belief that Nathan is now praying with us at each Eucharist, among the communion of saints in heaven. May his dedication to the Exsultet inspire us all to carry his light forward in our own lives.
