Assistant Professor of Practice, Catholic Theology/Moral Theology

12/18/2025 1:26 PM | Edward Hahnenberg

The Department of Theology & Religious Studies at John Carroll University invites applications for a full-time (continuing, non-tenure track) Faculty of Practice position in Catholic theology or Catholic moral theology beginning Fall 2026. The area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates whose work explores the intersection of theology, social ethics, and culture; and is sensitive to the global, ecumenical, and contextually diverse nature of theology today. Teaching load is 4-4.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence and innovation in teaching, commitment to high-impact pedagogies, and the ability to offer a wide range of courses in contemporary Catholic theology and/or Catholic moral theology that support JCU’s core curriculum, the Theology & Religious Studies major/minor, and master’s programs in theological education and pastoral ministry. Since this position provides courses within the interdisciplinary Catholic Studies minor, experience engaging the Catholic Intellectual Tradition more broadly is required.

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, teaching statement, 3 letters of recommendation, and unofficial transcripts to: https://jcu.peopleadmin.com/postings/3969.

Questions can be directed to Dr. Edward P. Hahnenberg, Search Committee Chair at ehahnenberg@jcu.edu. Review of applications will begin on February 16, 2026, and continue until the position is filled.
